Messy survey export? I do the data cleaning in Stata and hand back a documented, analysis-ready dataset with the do file that produced it.

WHAT I DO

Clean, label and recode variables, with value labels that read properly.

Find, flag or remove duplicates and inconsistencies.

Merge and append multiple rounds, modules or datasets.

Reshape between wide and long, and set up panel data.

Handle missing values and outliers explicitly, never silently.

Build a codebook so you know exactly what every variable is.

WHAT YOU GET

The clean .dta dataset, plus Excel or CSV if you want it.

A commented .do file you can re-run on your raw data yourself.

A short note on every cleaning decision I made.

Nothing is done by hand. If it cannot be reproduced, I do not do it.

I work with SurveyCTO, ODK and KoboToolbox exports, and with Excel, CSV and SPSS files. I am a data analyst at a survey research firm and this is my daily work on multi-round household surveys.
