A manuscript evaluation is similar to a developmental edit but with a narrower scope of work. This means that I will provide the substantive feedback required to elevate your manuscript via an editorial review letter, but not the in-text comments that one would normally find in a developmental edit. Meaning, there is one deliverable, not two.
A manuscript evaluation includes a rigorous assessment of the following areas:
- the craft of writing (writing mechanics, logic, clarity, readability)
- plot/subplots
- proper use of exposition
- dialogue (+ tags and action beats)
- description
- pacing
- act structure
- characterization/character arcs
- narrative voice
- correct use of point(s) of view (omniscient vs. limited, etc.)
- genre-specific requirements
