I will optimize slow postgresql queries using explain analyze and indexing
Data entry, Excel cleanup, web scraping and product CSV automation
About this Gig
Is a PostgreSQL query making your app, API or report slow? I'll find out why and fix it.
I'm a database developer with 11+ years of SQL and query tuning on large Oracle ERP systems (HR, Payroll, Inventory, Supply Chain). The core skills are the same in PostgreSQL: reading execution plans, choosing the right indexes, and rewriting queries to do less work.
WHAT I DO
- Read your EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS) output and pinpoint the bottleneck: seq scans, bad join order, row estimate errors, sorts spilling to disk
- Rewrite queries: joins, CTEs, window functions, removing N+1 patterns and functions on indexed columns
- Recommend indexes (composite, partial, expression) and point out unused or duplicate ones
- Check whether statistics are stale (ANALYZE)
WHAT YOU GET
- Before/after plan comparison
- Optimized, tested query
- Index scripts and a plain-English report
I work on query text, plans and a test copy. No production access needed.
Please send the query and its EXPLAIN ANALYZE output before ordering so I can confirm the scope.

FAQ
Is your background Oracle or PostgreSQL?
My production experience is Oracle. Plan reading, indexing strategy and set-based query design carry over directly. I test every recommendation against your PostgreSQL version before delivering.
What do you need from me?
The query, its EXPLAIN (ANALYZE, BUFFERS) output, the table definitions (\d+ table) and approximate row counts. A pg_stat_statements export helps for Premium.
Do you do server tuning (postgresql.conf, replication, backups)?
No. This gig covers query and index optimization only.
Can you guarantee a speed-up?
I'll show measured before/after plans on your test data. If I can't find a meaningful improvement, I'll tell you before delivering.
Do you work with ORMs (Django, Rails, Prisma)?
Yes, if you can capture the generated SQL. I optimize the SQL and suggest how to express it in your ORM where possible.
