About this gig
- Silent Hill 2. One of the great if not the best survival horror game.
- Something that make it stand out from the other survival horror it's the heavy atmosphere of the game, and with music like that it's impossible not to get immersed.
- Akira Yamaoka, the OST composer of SH2, did it with a technique not so common but rising in the game industry: Sampling.
- By sampling already existing synths and playing them on the keyboard with the textures layered in the sample, creates a powerful sound, and in this case, it's made very bleak.
- And note that this technique is fairly forgotten in the OSTs of the modern landscape of videogames. I'm pretty sure that if the big names on the industry don't use it, the smaller composers don't even know that exists.
