It doesn't matter how professional you are, if the writing you produce (whether that's adverts, blogs, social media posts or anything else) is full of errors, people will be discouraged from taking you on.

However, the two things really aren't related: there's no reason you can't be the best person in your professional field despite not knowing the difference between there, their and they're. That's why proofreading is so useful. It helps you appear as the polished professional you really are.

Think of it like a profile picture for your business website: you'd try to get a photo that shows you in the best light (literally). Proofreading just polishes up your words so they reflect the same professionalism you bring to all other aspects of your work.

I've been proofreading a variety of different types of work for over twenty years, but until 2018 it was simply as part of my day-to-day job. On launching my own business, I joined the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) to enable clients to have confidence in my work. I am now an Intermediate Member.

I've done work for garden centres, financial institutions, charities, florists, and fiction writers.
