I have over fifteen year's experience working with musicians from age 5 to 75, and have taught in schools, camps, community organizations, and private lessons. I love the opportunity to work with students 1-on-1, and to help you identify and work towards your musical goals. We can focus on tone, technique, expanding your range, solo or ensemble singing, song choice and interpretation! Whatever your skill level, I am here to support your growth to reach the next level.

I am a professional saxophonist and vocalist comfortable working across many genres, but firmly rooted in jazz and contemporary music. I have a B.A. in Music from Dartmouth College, an M.A. in Teaching from University of the Pacific, and am currently pursuing an M.F.A. in Jazz Studies from the prestigious CalArts in Los Angeles. I love teaching, and have spent nearly a decade working with students from ages 5-75 in schools, music ensembles, and in private lessons. I am comfortable teaching voice, saxophone, improvisation, music theory, and foundational keyboard.

FAQ
What will a typical lesson look like?
We will establish goals together in the first lesson, which can be based on whatever you'd like to work on! Every lesson will include some warm-ups across the vocal range, technique exercises, and lots of workshopping specific repertoire that we are working on together!
What styles do you sing?
While I have some classical training, my music focuses primarily on Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM), particularly jazz, folk, soul, musical theater, and related genres.
Do I need to be able to read music?
While not all vocalists may need to read sheet music, it is valuable to be able to communicate easily with other musicians if you plan to perform in a group! Whether it is sheet music or lyric sheets with a "roadmap," we will work on developing repertoire that sets you up for success in performance.
Will you provide accompaniment?
We may use a piano for warm-ups and technical exercises, but my primary instruments are voice and saxophones. For most lessons, I find it helpful for students to work from a backing track (which we can find together), so I can be 100% focused on your singing.
Will you teach lessons in person?
I am located in the Los Angeles area. If you live within a reasonable commute, I am able to provide in-person lessons at your home for an additional fee!
