Tempo Mapping is when you set the bar/beat grid of your DAW to match a recorded performance. It is a useful technique when you have a recording that was not performed to a click or the performance varies in tempo and speed.
This will greatly improve your ability to quantized live performances, add rep-recorded loops etc. all while maintaining a natural feel to your song.
