FAQ
What is a headless Shopify storefront?
It is a custom-coded website that uses Shopify as the backend (products, checkout, orders) while the front is a unique React site. You get design freedom and faster load times while keeping all Shopify features like inventory, fulfillment, and apps.
Do I need an active Shopify subscription?
Yes. You need at least Shopify Basic ($29/month). Shopify handles your checkout, payments, inventory, and fulfillment. My custom storefront connects to it via the Storefront API. Your Shopify admin stays exactly as you use it now.
Will this work with my existing Shopify products?
Yes. I pull your products in real time via Shopify Storefront API. Prices, images, variants, inventory all stay in sync automatically. Update products in Shopify, and the custom site updates instantly. No double data entry.
Where does checkout happen?
Checkout redirects to Shopify secure checkout. Cart is built on the custom site, but payment is processed by Shopify. Your Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, Apple Pay, and all checkout apps work exactly as before. No compliance or security to worry about.
What custom domain do I use?
Your own domain (yourbrand.com). The custom storefront lives on the main domain. Shopify checkout lives on a subdomain or still uses yourbrand.com pages during checkout. Seamless for customers, they never know the technical details.
Why is this better than a Shopify theme redesign?
Themes are templates thousands of stores share. A custom storefront is uniquely yours. You get pixel-perfect control over design, lightning-fast load speeds, full creative freedom, and a site that feels like a premium DTC brand, not a generic Shopify store.
Can I add product reviews, quizzes, or blog to the custom site?
Yes. I integrate product reviews (Judge.me, Yotpo), custom quizzes for product finder flows, blog with SEO, email capture, and analytics. Blog and quiz are available as gig extras. Reviews integration is included in Standard and Premium.
Will my Shopify apps still work?
Apps that work on the checkout side (Klaviyo, ReCharge, Bold, Loox, Judge.me, Yotpo, Shopify Inbox) continue working normally. Some frontend apps will need to be reconnected via API. I handle the integration during build. Share your app list and I audit compatibility first.
What about SEO on the new headless site?
Headless sites rank better than themes when set up properly. I add server-side rendering, proper meta tags, structured data, XML sitemap, and clean URLs. Faster load times boost Google rankings. I also set up 301 redirects from your old URLs to preserve SEO.
Can you show me a live example of your work?
Yes. Visit saunacove.com to see a live headless Shopify storefront I built. Real products synced from Shopify, custom design, fast load times, mobile-responsive. Message me and I can share more examples and walk you through the build process.
