Why shouldn't I just install it locally on my Mac/PC?
Local installations stop working when you close your laptop or lose internet connection. A VPS server runs 24/7 in a datacenter, ensuring your webhooks and automations never miss a trigger.
Which server provider do you recommend?
For European clients, I highly recommend Hetzner (Great performance/price & German data centers). For US clients, DigitalOcean or AWS are great choices. You only need a small server (~$5/mo).
Is this legally compliant (GDPR/DSGVO)?
Yes. Since the software runs on your server (and not in a US cloud), you have full control over the data processing, which makes it much easier to comply with strict privacy laws.
