Building a commander deck is a lot like cooking a meal. You have the veggies which are lands, mana rocks, good stuff, etc. The meat aka the theme the entire deck is built around and of course, much more. But, for a meal to truly shine, it needs more than the basics.

Most people can build a functional commander deck. Likewise, most people can cook up some ramen noodles on a stove. But, if you wanted food that would blow your mind... You would go to a restaurant. Where, a chef would cook you up something that you could make at home.. but it's not quite the same is it?
