That's not your ears. That's a translation problem, and it's fixable.

Before touching EQ or compression, I find out what's actually breaking your mix. Usually it's one or two instruments fighting for the same space. I clean that up and rebalance, so your song holds up everywhere, not just the speakers you mixed it on.
