About this Gig
Hi, I'm Biatriz - a published romance novelist and biweekly critical writer on the romance genre. I'd like to beta read your manuscript.
What I bring as a beta reader:
Romance is what I write, read, and think critically about every two weeks for a public audience. I've been on both sides of the page - the side that submits the manuscript, and the side that reads it for structural feedback. I know what a beta note that helps looks like, and what a beta note that just performs authority looks like.
What you'll get:
- One focused read with running notes on chapter reactions
- A structured feedback report (2-5 pages) covering: overall reading experience, character (who worked, who didn't, why), pacing (where I leaned in, where I drifted), plot coherence, romance-specific beats (chemistry, tension, resolution), emotional shape
- Specific over vague. Page or scene references, not "this needs work"
- Honest without harshness. Information you can act on, not a verdict you have to accept
Credentials:
- Author of Advogando em Causa Própria (Amazon KDP, 2024)
- Editor of Comédia Romântica é Coisa Séria (Substack on romance criticism)
- Literary translator (Marina Kon's Jabuti Award-finalist novel)

FAQ
What kinds of romance do you read most?
Contemporary romance and small-town romance are my most-read subgenres. Regular authors on my rotation include Lucy Score, Robyn Carr, Nora Roberts, Taylor Jenkins Reid . I'm also comfortable with workplace romance, second-chance, forced proximity, and slow-burn.
How is beta reading different from editing?
Beta reading is a reader's response, not a technical review. I don't mark grammar, punctuation, or typos. I read your manuscript the way a real reader would, and I tell you where I was hooked, where I drifted, which character I rooted for, where the plot wobbled, and what landed emotionally.
Can I request specific things you focus on?
Absolutely. Tell me your specific concerns when you order (romance pacing, chemistry between leads, POV consistency, worldbuilding, subplot balance, ending payoff) and I'll organize my report around them. Custom focus is included at no extra cost.
Do you read AI-assisted manuscripts?
Yes. I've been reading and thinking carefully about AI-assisted romance writing and its specific tells: repetitive sentence rhythms, over-explained emotional states, description clusters, dialogue that lands slightly too clean, transitions that feel manufactured.
