I can edit manually or electronically. What this means is that I am fluent in proofreading marks and may print a manuscript to proofread by hand (manually), or use the “Editing Mode” in Microsoft Word to edit the electronic file. I do not use automatic proofreading software.

Not a silly question at all! This question is asked more frequently than you might think. Copy editing focuses on the content of the document or draft while it is a work in progress. Proofreading comes when the document is complete, to make it error-free and polished.

The turn-around time is an estimate. Proofreading does take time to ensure it is done properly, and requires more than one sweep through a document for stragglers and consistency checks. Shorter documents may well take significantly less time to process than the turn-around estimate.
