FAQ
1 - Do I need a powerful computer or NAS?
No. The fit check matches the app to what you own; a Raspberry Pi runs Jellyfin for direct play, 4K transcoding wants a real CPU or GPU. If your hardware genuinely can't do it, I tell you before you spend a dollar.
2 - Is my library private?
Your files never leave your machine. Jellyfin runs fully local with no accounts; Plex needs a free Plex account and phones home for remote streaming — I configure direct connections so traffic stays on your network wherever possible.
3 - What do you need from me?
You create the access — SSH key or temporary credentials, your choice — and revoke it at handover. Screen-share available if you want to watch. We finish with a 15-minute test call on your TV.
4 - What are the ongoing costs?
None to me. Jellyfin is fully free including hardware transcoding; Plex hardware transcoding needs Plex Pass — I flag that in the fit check so there are no surprises. Your only cost is the hardware you already own.
5 - Will it work on my TV?
Yes — apps for Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, smart TVs, phones, and tablets. The final test call happens on your actual device, because that's the only place playback issues show up.
6 - What happens after delivery?
You get a written admin guide covering updates, backups, and user management. Premium includes 14 days of support. After that, repair and maintenance is available — most setups rarely need me.
