Social media content refers to publications on social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LInkedIn, etc. If you’re a business, organization or a brand, you can easily establish direct contact with your audiences, however, you’ll also need to carefully consider how to communicate to them as feedback is often immediate and not always what you might’ve expected. Unlike traditional advertising, social media users give (and expect) immediate feedback so be flexible and prepared to work 24/7 on your content.

In the ideal situation, your social media presence and the content you post will turn your friends and followers into raving fans of your business. Despite all the ‘overnight success stories you might’ve heard, this takes careful planning and meticulous execution which are the result of a solid strategy. It’s also important to set clear goals, have a content plan (with a publication schedule), promote to the right audience, and analyze to improve.

Once you know your audience and your goals, it’s time to create the right content. Stay positive with the content you share as this always attracts attention and shares, (carefully) reuse and recycle, curate and repurpose content generated by users and never miss a chance to use the power of influencers. Just like any other type of content, social media content should be well-written and free of grammatical errors. It should also be visually appealing, using photos, videos, or infographics whenever possible.

With content batching (a productivity technique allowing you to ‘batch-create’ content in advance rather than post by post) you can free up time to be more strategic, and focus on creativity and the big picture, rather than be stuck in the details. By identifying your main content areas, analyzing posts, and brainstorming ideas, you can easily stockpile posts for a whole week or month ahead, much in the same way as batch-prepping your lunches.

Analysis of social media KPIs can give you valuable insights into which areas need more attention and where you should invest your time and budget. Start with identifying the important metrics for your organization and grouping them (a spreadsheet might help). Then ensure you monitor and audit regularly follower growth, impressions, engagement, clicks, traffic, mentions, and sentiments - always looking for trends, changes, and anomalies to gain insight and record them in your spreadsheet.
