I will be your developmental editor

Developmental editing focuses on the 'big picture' view of your story's characters, plot, story structure, world-building etc. It looks at whether or not the over-arching story works. It does not focus on sentence-level changes or typos.

I go through the manuscript at least twice and leave detailed comments throughout. I also write an in-depth editorial report summarising my findings and suggestions. Obviously this is a lot of work, which is reflected in the price.

Developmental editing comes before carrying out line and copyedits on your manuscript. I recommend carrying out your own rounds of developmental editing before sending your manuscript to an editor. There is no point decorating your house before the walls and foundations are finished!

I can offer a sample edit of 1000 words for $25. I will deduct the $25 fee from the editing total if you decide to book the larger edit with me.

I DO NOT use generative AI in any aspect of my editorial work. I ask that authors disclose whether (and to what extent) they have used generative AI in their fiction before booking with me. I reserve the right to refuse AI-generated work.

Yes, I can offer you a manuscript evaluation for $150 per 10,000 words. This covers the same areas as the developmental edit and includes a detailed editorial report, but does NOT include in-manuscript feedback.
