Need some big-picture editing? Maybe you're worried about plot holes, structure, whether the theme works, the characters have meaningful arcs, the voice and POV is consistent, and the pace is compelling enough to keep the reader turning the page. I will check the story's strengths and weaknesses, areas of ambiguity, scenes that need to be developed or cut, and make suggestions for improvements. My job is to make sure your story is as good as it can be before you start tweaking spelling and grammar. After all, there is no point in polishing text that might not make it to the final cut.

Does this include copy editing and line editing?
No. Copy editing and line editing come afterwards. In a developmental edit, I'm looking at the structure of your story and making sure it's solid enough before you worry about spelling and grammar issues and line-by-line editing.
How does a developmental edit work?
I read through your manuscript twice. Once to flag areas that need attention, and the second to check whether or not the problems have been dealt with later in your story. I raise queries and leave comments to show problem areas and suggest improvements to ensure your story is as good as it can be.
What happens if I need further help to make the changes or I disagree with your suggestions?
I am here to help. You can continue to message me until you are happy that you can resolve the issues I've raised in a way that suits your story. This is also an opportunity for you to contest any of my suggestions and talk about any changes you dislike. We will brainstorm edits until you are happy!
Will you help me make the revisions to my work?
Developmental editing is not a rewriting service, but I would be happy to help you make minor rewriting revisions where appropriate.
