With 7 of the 20 deadliest accidents in the history of civil aviation being caused by communication errors, it's a stark reminder of how important radiotelephony is in aviation.
When I went through my PPL training out of Bristol, I was shocked to hear how many different ways pilots were saying the same thing on the radio and not using standard phraseology. I started this gig to share my knowledge with others to help build confidence while studying for the UK Flight Radiotelephony Operator's Licence (FRTOL) practical test and Communications exam.
My background:
Since 2017, I've hosted regular sessions with others to practice topics of the CAP413 Radiotelephony Manual. My flight training started May 2023, by Janaury 2024 I obtained my PPL(A) and passed my FRTOL practical exam first time. Having the confidence on the radio saved me so much time and money so I could focus purely on the flying (the fun part!).
What to expect:
- An immersive enviroment using radio software to simulate the various Air Traffic Service Units
- Theory related to the CAP413 Radiotelephony manual and UK PPL Communications exam
- Scenarios to test your knowledge and build confidence outside of the cockpit
