What do you look for when proofreading?
Proofreading looks strictly at the mechanics of your manuscript: Spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, word usage, consistency (ensuring not only that names, places, etc. are spelled correctly, but that they're all spelled the same way every time). I proofread according to the CMOS by default.
How long have you been doing work like this?
I have been proofreading/editing across industries (journalism, legal, and lifestyle pubs) for nearly ten years -- more, including college; however, fiction is my real passion. I want to partner with indie authors to help polish their work for readers.
Who is your ideal client?
All inquiries are welcome! My ideal stories are fantasy, thriller, or romance, though I'm open to other genres as well. All substantive editing rounds should be completed before proofreading.
What if I'm on my first draft?
While I'm happy to work with you at any stage of your project, proofreading is generally the final step of the writing process. Proofreading midway through a project (when you may have major changes still to come) likely will mean you need another round once you're done.
How do I know what my manuscript will cost?
When you're ready to purchase a gig, message me with your final/current word count. I will then create a custom offer for you with the price you'll pay.
