As a Lawyer, webmaster and traveler, I write in English quite a lot. Keep in mind though, I'm not a native English speaker.

You can send me any file in plain text. But if you send me an MS Word or Excel file, for example, and you ask me to keep the formatting exactly as it is in the original file, I'm happy to do that. For Adobe software, such as Acrobat, InDesign, InCopy or PowerPoint, this is often too complicated.

You can send me your files through the Fiverr platform. Most of my clients send me files with common extensions like *.txt, *.doc, docx, *.odt, *.xls, *.xlsx . If you send me Adobe Files (like *.pdf), note that it's not always possible to keep the formatting.

The content is the most important part. Personally I often write in plain text, using Notepad++. Ones I'm happy with the result, I paste the txt-content in my favorite software, like WordPress or Word and take care of the formatting and designing part. I keep the txt-version for later use.

For a translation with 100% the same design and formatting, the translator often needs exactly the same software, the same software version, the same fonts and the same settings. So sometimes, some formatting might get lost in the translation process. Writing in plain text solves a lot.

You can, but keeping the design and formatting created with Adobe apps or PowerPoint, is often too difficult and is beyond the scope of a translation job. The translator would need the same software. Moreover, the translated parts of a file are often bigger or smaller, which might break the design.

I prefer the original English or German text. It takes a lot of time to rewrite a machine translation. Serious translation is still human work. Otherwise, the translation often comes out looking odd and you might even get legal errors or mistakes in safety information.
