FAQ
What do you need from me for you to mix my song?
I require your individual instrument tracks as continuous 24-bit/ 48khz WAV files that all start at the same "zero or Bar 1" point. These tracks should be named by instrument and not have any effects unless they were recorded that way. I do NOT want your Logic, Reaper, Cubase, etc., session file.
What are some "nice to haves" you might want from me?
Some "nice to haves" would be to know if the song was recorded to a click track and what BPM. A rough mix is always appreciated as well as a few notes about how the song was recorded. Appropriate musical references/influences can also be useful.
Tell me more about the continuous WAV files
I mix in 24-bit/48Khz sample rate and prefer your WAV files in that format. They should be "consolidated" or bounced out with the same starting point (Bar 1). Please ensure any edits in your files do not have pops/clicks by crossfading before you bounce/consolidate. Name them like: "01_KickDrum.wav"
What am I getting back?
In most cases, you will receive a 24-bit, 48Khz stereo WAV file of your finished and mastered mix. If you opted for mixed stems ( 4 to 8 instrument groups) you will receive those as separate files as well. If you prefer a pre-mastered mix, please let me know.
Can I send you my ProTools session?
Short answer: Not really. I prefer continuous WAV files that I can drop into my mixing template. However, if you happen to work in ProTools and know how to "save session as," I may be able accept you session. As long as we talk about it in advance and stay in touch.
What if I don't like your mix?
Usually, the first revision of a mix should be very close to the desired final mix. Each mix comes with 2 revisions. If there is something you don't like about a mix, please let me know in clear language and I will be happy to revise. If the mix is entirely off the mark this should be said early on.
What if after 2 revisions, I still do not like your mix?
The answer to this depends. If we feel the mix only needs small changes, I can accommodate for that with an extra revision. However, it is possible that the process is just not working in which case I will hand over the work I've done so far. I do not offer refunds for completed work however.
What is analogue summing
Analog summing is the process of taking stereo instrument groups or "stems" and routing them out of the DAW, blending them through my analogue console and back into the DAW again to create a stereo mix. This adds some additional harmonic qualities, compression and more "loudness" to the overall mix.
