Not necessarily. Dates in the distant future can be used, but mostly near-future dates are asked about and sometimes very-near-future dates as well.

Are there any ethical considerations?
Yes. I will not agree to elect times for any venture which will endanger another individual.
What is the down side of the basic electional astrology offer?
I will pick the right time and reference the birth chart. However, the process would be more quick, intuitive and only a very short report would be issued to the client.
