About this Gig
I will: give extremely clear inline feedback; write succinct and useful mini reports; highlight strong aspects that make your book great and; offer critical but constructive comments regarding any problems that I find.
I can read both fiction and non-fiction.
I will look at reader responses (do I feel emotional, confused, excited, bored, etc at every point of the story). I also give feedback on characterisation, plot, pacing and so on.
I also give an overview of sentence-level and word-level issues. Note that you can pay extra for fuller sentence-level and fuller word-level feedback (doing these comprehensively is time-consuming, so costs more, and note that this subtly shifts the overall focus of the beta read).
Apologies but I do not read sexual content, graphic horror or graphic violence. And note that I do not use any AI at all. I am 100% a human beta reader.
I am new to Fiverr hence I do not have any reviews. You are welcome to ask me any questions you like before booking a gig to reassure yourself that I am professional and focussed on your needs. For the same reason I have initially set my price low.

What does your beta read service include?
I will read your book up to the number of words you have paid for. I will review for ease of reading, reader emotional response, characterisation, plot holes, etc. This is all done inline. Then I write a one-page reader report and a one-page impact report. I beta read in British English.
What is inline feedback?
I will rename the document you send me and add my comments directly to it. It is then extremely easy for you read and understand my feedback with no ambiguity.
Do you highlight sentence-level feedback such as grammar?
Yes I do. However, for a full and comprehensive review (that requires a different and slower way of working during the read through) it costs extra. Note I give this feedback based on British English.

Can you read part of a book?
Yes. I am happy to read whatever parts of your book you wish to share. Remember I will read up to the number of words you pay for. If your book is longer, then I will follow your instructions or use my initiative (perhaps reading the first few chapters and then the last couple of chapters)
Is there a limit to how long my book can be?
It can be as long as you like. However, if it is very long (greater than approximately 250,000 words) then please check with me first as I will need to put aside the time.
What genres can you read?
I can read any genre, fiction and non-fiction, from children's books through YA to adult. This is mainly because I am such a keen personal reader (as a hobby) and also because of my time working in libraries (when I used to have fun reading books from all the different sections).
What exactly is sentence-level feedback?
This covers writing style, tense choices, phrasing choices and punctuation. Every sentence is read with care. However, the industry-standard qualification applies: if there are an extremely large number of sentences with issues then only representative ones will be highlighted.

This covers typos, spelling and finer-level grammar issues. Every word is read with care. However, the industry-standard qualification applies: if there are an extremely large number of words with issues then only representative ones will be highlighted.
Can you completely error check a non-fiction book?
Suppose, for example, that it is a maths textbook. In this case clearly I cannot literally try every question and check the answers. Instead, I would read it and highlight any larger issues but would not check all the maths for you.
