You wrote a story based in Australia. You wrote for a predominantly Australian audience. And now you need a beta reader.
But you're stuck. Australian companies offering beta reading are expensive. Cheaper online beta readers tend to be based elsewhere around the world. They aren't your target audience and you're worried they won't get some of the cultural nuances in your work.

I'm an Australian who grew up in the country, worked in the city, and lives in suburbia. I love Australian literature, modern and classic. I have extensive writing and editing experience through my work in research and academic editing. Let me use my background, experience, and skills to read your story from the perspective of your target audience and provide positive, useful critique to help you decide where to take your story next.
You can expect:
- A detailed reader report (3+ pages) including my impressions and a helpful critique of your work examining plot, setting, characters, stakes, tension, point-of-view, momentum, pace, voice, and show and tell, with a highlight of the story's strengths, weaknesses, and suggested next steps.

FAQ
How do you protect the confidentiality of my work?
I will not share or publish any of your work that you provide to me. I will delete any files you send to me within 7 days of completing the gig.
Do you have a policy on working with manuscripts written using with AI?
Yes, I do. While I don't have an issue with assistive AI (such as spelling and grammar checkers), I have strong personal views against the use of generative AI in creative works. Personal opinions aside, it is an ethical and potentially legal minefield, and I don't want anything to do with it.
Can you address specific concerns and questions I have about my story?
Yes! Please let me know if there are particular things you want me to look out for or consider while I am reading your work, and I will make sure I include these.
Will you edit my mistakes?
No. This is not an editing service. It is an in-depth critique of your work coming from the perspective of your reader. I may flag some errors that I see, especially if they are consistent.
What genres do you read?
Almost anything! However, I'm a bit of a sensitive soul, so horror, very spicy romance or erotica, and gratuitous violence are not my thing, and I may not be the best reader for stories with a heavy LGBTQ+ focus. If your story contains these elements, contact me and we'll see what we can do together
I need tough love (or, alternatively, a very gentle approach) for feedback. Can you accommodate me?
Yes. I try to be objective in how I deliver feedback, but if you want me to be harsher than the most critical Good Reads reviewers or softer than cotton wool, let me know. I will still be honest but deliver feedback in a way that suits you.
