About this Gig
This is STEP TWO of my editing and publishing process. Please see my other gigs for the subsequent steps.
I will deliver a deep, big-picture structural edit (also called developmental or substantive editing) to strengthen your manuscript's foundation. I'll flag what's working, what's not, and what needs reshaping so your story reads with clarity and momentum, focusing on plot/structure, pacing, character arcs, world-building, and overall coherence.
You'll receive:
- detailed in-line margin comments throughout your manuscript
- clear restructuring and revision guidance (reordering, cuts, expansions)
- formatting support and document organization as needed
- our Book Blueprint plus an Aeon Timeline PDF to guide your revision
This package is best for early drafts or manuscripts that need direction and clarity, and it's typically most effective after a beta read. Turnaround time is approximately 1 day per 1,000 words (an 80,000-word manuscript would take about 80 days).
See my FAQs for more information, and please reach out before placing an order to confirm my availability.
I look forward to working with you!

FAQ
What qualifies you to structurally edit my manuscript?
I have a BA in French and journalism, an MA in publishing and creative writing, and I’m a contract editor for a major U.S. proofreading service. I’ve structurally edited many full-length manuscripts, so you’ll get professional, craft-focused guidance beyond line-level polish.
What is a structural edit (and what isn’t it)?
A structural edit (also called developmental or substantive editing) is big-picture analysis and revision guidance on plot and structure, pacing, character arcs, world-building, continuity, and overall cohesion. It is not copyediting or proofreading.
What genres do you accept?
I specialize in fantasy, sci-fi, romance, romantasy, horror, thriller, YA, and self-help nonfiction, but I’m happy to work with any genre.
What will I receive?
You’ll receive a Clean Copy and a Track Changes copy with in-line editorial comments, revision and restructuring guidance, and our Book Blueprint (style guide + character/location tracking). You’ll also receive an Aeon Timeline PDF to track events, plot threads, and continuity.
Will you fix grammar and typos?
This service focuses on structure, clarity, and craft. I may flag recurring issues or distracting errors, but I won’t correct grammar line by line. If you need sentence-level editing, please see my content editing gig or proofreading gig.
Can you structurally edit a self-published book?
Yes. Upload the latest manuscript file. If you want feedback tied to the published version, include a PDF or sales link so I can reference layout, chapter breaks, and reader flow.
Do you accept AI-assisted manuscripts?
AI-assisted work is welcome if its use is clearly disclosed on the copyright page. I do not edit fully AI-generated manuscripts. Per U.S. copyright law, work must reflect the author’s voice and include significant human creative input before editing begins.
Do you accept explicit content (spice/violence/dark themes)?
Yes. I’m comfortable working with explicit material, including steamy romance and darker themes. If you have hard limits or specific triggers you want flagged, tell me up front.
How confidential is this?
My process is completely confidential. I won’t share or reuse your content (NDA available on request).
What do you need from me to start?
I’ll need your manuscript file (preferably in standard manuscript format), word count, genre, your revision goals, and any focus areas or content warnings. These will be listed in the requirements after you place your order.
