I will compose a song for your film, dance, or visual project
About this gig
Hi, I'm Emily, and I can't wait to help you achieve your musical goals with your song, composition, or concept!
If this is for a film, this gig only covers the fee for a limited release sync license (see FAQ for details)
I've been a composer for over 10 years, creating works for other artists, dancers, film, and my own work. I write and record from my music studio in Berlin Ableton Live, ProTools, and Finale, and I have Kontakt's software instrument library as well as other boutique plugins for a variety of realistic software synths.
I also have been singing professionally for over 20 years, and can play piano, oboe, flute, and percussion.
Upon completion of the gig:
- if any recordings are made, sound recording rights (exclusive, non-transferable*) are given to the buyer for the agreed upon use/distribution*
- if the composition is for a film, a sync license is given to you*
- all composition royalties will be retained and registered with ASCAP*

FAQ
What credit do I need to give?
This should be a part of our initial conversation, but generally you would give me credit in the film's final credits as "composer," "lyricist," and/or "musician" depending on the scope of the gig.
What do I need to know about Licensing?
You need to have the synchronization license in order to show a film in a public location (including uploading online). You never have to pay me any award money or festival fees you receive.
What do I need to know about copyright and royalties?
Upon delivery, the sound recording rights are licensed to you in order for you to use my recording or make an independent sound recording based on my composition. You never have to pay me any royalties.
What does exclusive, non-transferable mean?
Exclusive - I won't use the composition on other projects or give them to anyone else to use. Non-transferable - you cannot sell my portion of the rights to your song to be used by anyone else
What if my film gets picked up by a studio or distributor?
My fees are very reasonable because the license I give covers a limited distribution. Any other uses will have to be be re-negotiated between myself and the studio or distributor and will often stipulate a transfer fee with them (you never have to pay me more).
What is ASCAP?
ASCAP is a performing rights organization (PRO) that will collect any composition royalties from public performances (radio, etc.) and deliver them to me.
