About this Gig
Ready to share your work with the world? Looking for some feedback before you take that plunge?
I'm Em! I have a First Class degree in Creative writing, a CPD certified diploma in editing and proofreading, and I absolutely love my job!
I will beta read your work and provide honest and constructive feedback about plot, characters, and pacing, and identify strengths and weaknesses in your writing.
With this gig, I also comment reader reactions and impressions on the manuscript. As a writer, I find these so helpful as you can see how others are reacting to your book! A beta report is also included, detailing things such as:
· Are your characters developed well enough?
· Is your storyline easy to follow?
· Are there any plot holes?
· Is the language easy to understand?
· Did it get stagnant at any point?
· What did I like and dislike?
I specialise in YA, romance and LGBTQ+ genres, but I am open to most genres as long as they do not promote hate and violence or any type of abuse. ***Please message me before placing an order***
NOTE: I do not use AI in my work.

FAQ
What's included?
In line comments on your manuscript and an in-depth report concerning first impressions, plot, characters, pacing, and dialogue.
What's not included?
Line editing, copy editing, proofreading (but I will pick up some things as examples of what to look out for in these areas)
What's the difference between developmental editing and beta reading?
Beta reading tends to be more of a gut-check for the author. Developmental editing is highly specific and detailed feedback. Think of the beta reader as a general overview of the story, and a developmental editor as line, paragraph, scene, and chapter feedback.
What's the difference between developmental editing and copy editing?
Developmental editing focuses on the big picture of a manuscript. Copyediting, on the other hand, focuses on the technical details of the writing, such as grammar, spelling, punctuation etc. Copy editing should come after your story-level edits have been finalised (as rewrites mean this is wasted).
What dogs do you have?
I love dogs and have two spaniels called Millie and Jessie. Both very different but equally loveable!

Ongoing collaborationEmily has provided a detailed, helpful and thorough developmental edit and beta read of my 90,000 word novel. The notes throughout the manuscript are so useful and interesting as you can see where sections are working well, or not quite hitting their mark. I am looking forward to making the changes and having a better story as a result. Thanks so much!

This is my first experience with this type of project and Emily was so supportive, helping me understand the process. At first glance, her feedback is helpful and comprehensive. I couldn't be happier with Emily's approach, communication, and support. She has even offered to support me further with any Q&A, even down the road. Thank you Emily!
