Most fillable PDFs are unusable with a screen reader. The fields are there, but they have no names, no tags and no tab order - so the reader announces "edit text, edit text, edit text" and the person filling it in has no idea which box is which.
I build the form and make it accessible in the same pass, in Adobe Acrobat Pro.
Text fields, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns and date fields
A tooltip on every field, which is what a screen reader actually reads out
Logical tab order, so keyboard users move through the form in the order a person reads it
Fields tagged into the document structure, not floating on top of it

FAQ
Do you test with a screen reader?
I verify every file with PAC 2026, Adobe Acrobat's own accessibility checker, and by inspecting the tag tree and tab order directly. I do not run JAWS or NVDA testing. If your contract requires assistive-technology testing by a certified tester, you will need that separately.
Will the filled-in answers save?
That depends on the reader, not the file. Adobe Acrobat Reader saves a filled form; some alternative readers discard it on close. I will tell you which reader to use so nobody loses their work.
What counts as a field?
Every separate box a person types into or ticks. One line of a name and address block is one field, a row of five tick boxes is five. If you are unsure, send the file and I will count them for you.
Can you keep my original design?
Yes. The fields sit over your existing page and the page itself does not change. Fonts, spacing, colours and layout stay exactly as they are.
