Developmental Editor
About this Gig
Your story deserves more than a surface-level edit. Let's strengthen it from the inside out.
I'm an Acquisitions Editor, developmental editor, and published, award-winning author with 9+ years of small press and freelance editorial experience.
I specialize in YA and adult fantasy and speculative fiction, with experience in mystery, romantic suspense, and other select fiction genres.
My developmental edit looks at the big picture, including:
- Plot & story structure
- Pacing & tension
- Character development & arcs
- Motivation & emotional stakes
- Worldbuilding
- Plot holes & inconsistencies
- Scene effectiveness
- Overall story clarity
You'll receive an annotated manuscript with thoughtful, actionable feedback designed to help you determine what is working, what needs strengthening, and how you can approach revisions.
My editing style is collaborative and author-focused. I won't try to turn your book into the story I would write. My goal is to help you strengthen the story you want to tell while preserving your unique voice and vision.

FAQ
What is included in a developmental edit?
I focus on big-picture elements, including plot, structure, pacing, character arcs, motivation, worldbuilding, inconsistencies, and story clarity. You'll receive an annotated manuscript with detailed, actionable feedback.
Is developmental editing the same as proofreading?
No. Developmental editing focuses on the story itself rather than correcting every grammar, spelling, or punctuation issue. Copyediting and proofreading are separate stages that typically come after developmental revisions.
Will you rewrite my manuscript?
No. I'll identify issues, explain what's working and what could be strengthened, and offer suggestions for revision. My goal is to help you tell the strongest version of your story while preserving your unique voice.
What genres do you edit?
I specialize in YA and adult fantasy and speculative fiction, as well as mystery, cozy mystery, and romantic suspense. I also consider select other fiction genres. Feel free to message me if you're unsure whether your manuscript is a fit.
Can you edit manuscripts over 80,000 words?
Yes! The Premium package includes up to 80,000 words. For longer manuscripts, simply select the additional word-count option when ordering. Additional words are $20 per 1,000 words.
What file format should I send?
Please submit your manuscript as a Microsoft Word (.docx) file. This allows me to leave comments and editorial notes directly within your manuscript.
Can I contact you before ordering?
Absolutely! If you have questions about your manuscript, genre, word count, or which package is right for you, please message me before ordering. I'm happy to make sure we're a good fit before you book.
