I will craft the perfect message one word at a time

The impact of an asteroid collision, such as with 2024 YR4, is more than physical destruction. The possibility of an impact can cause widespread public anxiety, economic shifts, and a need for emergency redirection of global resources.

Undue terror can be replaced with a calmer fear with the knowledge that NASA is monitoring and doing whatever they can to eliminate these threats. Because it can be harder for civilians to understand scientific terms, explaining and making sure that the typical layperson can understand whats happening is important for the emotional safety of the citizens. The article on NASA website did just that. The illustration and easy language gave a clear understanding of what they prevented without causing public panic.

Civic engagement helps people become active participants. For example, Citizen Science projects like "Asteroid Hunters" allow the public to help analyze sky survey data. This involvement educates the community on the scientific process, reduces panic through participation, and provides NASA with more "eyes on the sky" to identify potential threats earlier.
