Because most logo gigs sell a drawing. This one sells the decision and the drawing. The brief is what makes your mark defensible in front of your market, your team, and your own doubt six months from now.
Why does the project start with a brief instead of a logo?
Because a logo with no decision behind it can only be judged by taste, and taste changes every week. The brief turns opinion into criteria, and criteria is what keeps the project short.
How many logo options will I see?
One direction, developed with depth. The brief already removed the wrong paths before design started. If you want a second direction explored, that is available as an extra.
What if the direction is not what I expected?
You approve the brief before I design anything. That is the moment to redirect, and it costs nothing.
