FAQ
Do I need a Power BI licence?
You need Power BI Desktop to open the file, and Desktop is free. A paid licence only matters if you want to publish to the cloud and share it with others. I can build the dashboard so it works standalone in Desktop first, and note down exactly what changes if you later move it to a workspace.
Can you work with my existing Power BI file?
Yes. Send me the .pbix, or a screenshot showing your current visuals and measures. I will tell you straight away whether extending what you have is cheaper for you than rebuilding, and I will not rebuild just to inflate the order.
Can the dashboard refresh itself?
Yes, where your data sources allow it. Scheduled refresh needs the file published to a workspace, and for most on-premise or local-file sources it also needs a gateway set up on your side. If you would rather stay in Desktop for now, I build it so you refresh with a single click.
My data is sensitive. How do you handle it?
Send a masked extract or a small sample if you prefer - most builds can be scoped from that. I only ask for the columns the dashboard actually needs, I do not share your files with anyone, and I delete the working copy once the order is complete.
Can you just write the DAX without building visuals?
Yes. Message me with your model and what each measure should answer, and I will quote the measures on their own. That is often the right call when your layout already works and only the numbers behind it are wrong.
