About this Gig
Are you looking for friendly and objective feedback on your thriller or crime novel? Are you unsure about whether it 'works', and is ready to go out into the world? I'll help you to understand whether your thriller or crime novel works in the 5 key areas.
This gig is for a readers report, which will cover: The opening/ beginning/ first chapter, the pace, the plot, characters and reader satisfaction. This will be in the form of a Word document, and does not include inline comments.
I am English, and studied Creative Writing at University, hold a diploma in Creative Writing, and was selected for the Curtis Brown 'Edit Your Novel' small-group course, under some of the industry's top literary agents. I read voraciously, love crime and thrillers, and have an eagle-eye for detail. I will provide honest and unflinching feedback, while remaining friendly (I know your book is your baby!) and pulling out all of the areas that I love (which is often more helpful - 'Continue doing THIS...')

Do you offer inline comments in the manuscript?
No, within my beta reader gig I do not, but this is offered within my other package - Developmental Editing. As a beta reader, I read your book on my Kindle and reading on my laptop would extend the gig timings considerably.
Are there any genres or scenes you will not read?
In general, I'm happy to read anything - violent scenes, erotic scenes, scary scenes - but if it's hugely triggering - for example graphic SA - then please give me a heads up.
Do you read an excerpt of a book, instead of the whole book?
Yes, but please provide context - e.g., is this the first chapter, middle chapter, etc
How brutal will you be? Should I be scared?
I will be honest without being rude! I know that you're sending me something that is very precious, and my role is to pull out the very best bits so that they can be expanded upon. Identifying what readers will love is just as important as the bits to leave out.
