FAQ
1) What does proofreading include?
Proofreading is a final polish for short fiction. I correct spelling, grammar, punctuation, dialogue punctuation/quotation consistency, tense drift (when clearly accidental), and consistency (names/terms/hyphenation/capitalization). Edits are delivered as tracked changes/suggestions for your review.
2) What does proofreading NOT include?
This gig does not include line editing (rewriting for style/voice), developmental feedback (plot/pacing/character), or heavy rewrites. If you’re looking for deeper craft notes or sentence-level restructuring, I can offer that as a separate service later.
3) Do you work on stories longer than 5,000 words?
Yes. You can add extra words using the “Additional 1,000 words” add-on, or message me for a custom offer if it’s significantly longer.
4) How fast is delivery?
Standard delivery is 3 days (often sooner for shorter pieces). If you need faster, choose the 2-day rush add-on (limited availability).
6) What does “1 revision” mean?
One revision addresses missed errors or minor preference adjustments (e.g., US/UK spelling, Oxford comma, consistency choices). It does not include rewriting new text or re-editing major changes you make after delivery.
7) What do you need from me to start?
Please send: word count genre/tone US or UK spelling preference (if you have one) any character names/special terms to watch
8) What kinds of stories do you specialize in?
I specialize in short fiction, with a strong preference for sci-fi and fantasy (including darker/grittier tones). I’m happy to proofread other genres too, but SFF is my home turf.
