What is a beta reader?
Beta reading focuses on the reader's experience of the plot, pacing, characters, dialogue, emotional impact, and confusing sections. Proofreading focuses on correcting grammar, spelling, punctuation, and minor formatting errors. These are different services and can be ordered separately or together.
How do I know you're legit?
That is a great question, and one I've been asked before. You can never be too careful these days. I would be happy to provide a list of references of my previous work for beta reading to show you I am indeed reliable and worth your time.
What genres will you read?
My expertise focuses mainly in fiction like sci-fi, fantasy, romance, mystery, thriller, etc. However, if your work falls outside of these typical categories I'd be happy to discuss the project with you and see if I can offer my help.
What kind of works will you not accept?
I'm happy to work with fiction that explores sensitive topics such as racism, sexism, classism, discrimination, or sexual assault, I do not accept projects that promote or encourage hate speech, contain obvious plagiarism, or involve illegal content. Please reach out if you're unsure.
Will you revise or edit my manuscript?
Under the basic package, no, I do not offer any editing of the manuscript. I am happy to provide revisions as a separate add on service or as part of the standard or premier package.
How do I receive my feedback/edits?
You'll receive a detailed feedback document outlining strengths, areas for improvement, and specific notes throughout the manuscript (depending on the package you choose). Proofreading orders will include a marked-up copy showing suggested corrections.
Do you use AI to review manuscripts?
No. At no point do I use AI to read, edit, or review any manuscript sent to me.
Does my manuscript have to be finished?
No! If you'd like feedback on only one specific section, or whatever it is you have ready, I am happy to offer my services.
Can I contact you before I order?
Absolutely! I encourage you to reach out with any questions on my services for your project. I want to offer the best experience possible, and that includes communication before the project starts.
What if I've already had my manuscript edited?
That's the beauty of editing, you can do it as many times as you need until you're satisfied. It's often helpful to get multiple points of view on the same project, so I'm always happy to review edited works!
