Why does your line editing and developmental editing cost more than other book editors?
I use the term 'line editing' for this gig because it's well-recognized by writers. However, this process is a more in-depth form of substantive editing, including a combination of line and developmental edits, writing coaching, story work-shopping, and intensive instruction.

Do you line edit full-length novels?
Absolutely! This gig is an opportunity to receive valuable feedback on your opening chapters and experience the power of professional development. If you wish to continue past this stage, I provide special, subsidized rates for larger projects.
Will you line edit my short story, screenplay, or children's book?
Yes! But please contact me for a custom quote. If I'm not able to assist for any reason, I'll put you in touch with an editor who specializes in your required field.
Do you line edit non-fiction books?
I specialize in narratives, i.e. texts that tell a story. This includes non-fiction memoir but does not extend to instructional books, self-help, business how-tos, etc. Regardless, feel free to contact me with your request, and I'll happily refer you to a good non-fiction book editor.
What is the difference between this gig, and your beta reader gig?
Beta reading focuses on big picture feedback. In-line comments (offered above) take the extra step of providing feedback on a sentence/paragraph level. If you're unsure of which service would suit you best, please send me your excerpt and I'll be happy to offer additional guidance.
Can I submit a sample chapter from halfway through my novel?
Copy editors and proofreaders can edit out of context, but for developmental specialists, it's difficult to assess the continuity, pace, and structure of a scene when read in isolation. For that reason, I only accept prologues and opening chapters for this service.
What files do you accept?
MS Docs and PDFs are great, thanks! If you're working with .pages, reach out as I can usually do a conversion.
