I will beta read and review your nonfiction material

I'm a formally trained writer (with two Master's degrees in Writing for Dramatic Arts) educated in Europe. I've always read a lot. I belonged to the Professional Writers Association of Canada during the decade I lived there. I have edited non-fiction books and countless samples of written material.

I prefer Google Docs, but MS Word would be fine too. Also iCloud or Microsoft 365. Really, any format that I can mark up easily. PDF is easy for reading, but not at all easy for marking or editing.

Yes, short documents can be vital and they too need to be optimized. I will also gladly read and review any long document. I know it can cost a lot to get a lengthy manuscript ready for publishing, so I can prepare a custom offer and make the beta-reading step of your large volume affordable.

Because it would defeat the very purpose of beta reading. What a writer gets from a beta reader is a candid impression. To revise that opinion to make it more aligned with the writer's wishes would be doing the writer a disservice. It's tough love. You're paying for what you need, not what you wish.

I understand the need of writers to save money and minimize costs. But partial reading is risky: I can't say if the writing is consistent throughout or if all ideas are properly addressed. If it cannot be avoided, I'll do it, but I'd expect the buyer to accept the associated risks (in written form).

I have a natural preference for beta-reading completed works, as that eliminates doubts or reservations from my reader's report. If a writer is unsure how to continue a partially written manuscript, my role would inevitably enter an editor's domain. I'd be glad to make you a custom offer for that.

I've done it before. It takes a lot longer–and is harder–to read a work like that. I kept reading each word and line over and over, to make sure I got all the meaning. Plus, my review inevitably became a deep analysis, so my report took much longer to write. I can do it again, but for an extra fee.
