Small, simple things, without much variance, eg. a clock for your website, a simple calculator, a basic visualization on canvas, a simple algorithm. Good rule of thumb would be: it doesn't require more than 100 lines of code, is easily fitted into one file, and doesn't integrate with outside world.

A bit more complex project. It can integrate 2-3 things together, have less simple logic or just have a few more things that have to be done. Eg. a small and simple game, a more complicated calculator, a dynamic visualization or an algorithm implementation.
