What I check:
· whether the backtest uses information that wasn't available yet at the time
· fees, spreads and slippage in the backtest
· order handling: duplicate orders, partial fills, reconnects and crashes
· whether it can run 24/7
I build my own trading systems with AI tools and check them the same way. One of my backtests showed $52B profit. After the checks, it made $93.5k.
