I will letter your comic book

About this gig
Your comic book characters should be heard! Have a writer, artist, and colorist? What you need is a letterer! Leading, kerning, sound effects, balloons, and boxes shouldn't worry you, because I'll take care of all of that! My work is fast, clean, and professional, and I can even create title pages and credits!
My standard package includes work delivered as an .EPS file, all ready to be married to the art and published. Different file formats are available upon request. I can adjust the art or prepare the art and lettering for press for an additional fee.
I have a library of font families free to use for non-commercial or small press works, both in traditional comic lettering and in a variety of styles for monsters, supernatural beings, journals, and sound effects. Using commercially licensed fonts, or for large press works, requires you to provide the fonts. If you wish particular styles for fonts, balloons, SFX, or other things, I will work with you in developing those.
I request a letterer credit. If that is not possible for whatever reason, we can discuss the matter. Shorter subjects, like comic strips or editorial cartoons, fall under the one-page rate.

FAQ
You say you have a library of fonts free for small-press works. What does small-press mean?
I use fonts from Blambot that are free to use unless your comic book is being published by a mainstream publisher, which Blambot.com defines as "including, but not limited to: Marvel Comics, DC Comics, Image Comics, IDW, Dark Horse Comics, Vault, Aftershock, 2000AD, Dynamite, etc."
Can you use completely free fonts instead?
There are plenty of public domain, creative commons, or otherwise free-for-commercial-use fonts that I can use, but I find they are not of the same high quality as Blambot fonts. That choice is up to you.
Do you really need all that time?
Lettering a full page normally does not take me long at all. If your project is 5 pages or less you might see same day or next day turnaround. However, the padding is in there to ensure I can deliver when I say I can.
I can't give you a letterer credit
I am willing to work without credit for an additional negotiated fee.
What is your experience?
I have lettered several small-press comics. In addition I have been lettering comic parodies consistently since 2019. Industry professionals have remarked on the quality of my work, and how if they were not obvious parodies they would mistake my lettering for the real thing.
What if I have a non-traditional or non-standard project that requires a letterer?
Get in touch with me and we'll negotiate a fee.
Can you edit scripts or art as well?
I can write and edit scripts and edit art, but not on this gig. See my other gigs or contact me for freelance writing or editing!
Why do I need a separate comic book letterer? Can't the artist do it?
In order for comic book dialogue to flow properly a good letterer needs to know about typefaces, leading, kerning, how to construct good-looking and consistent bubbles and captions, how to do sound effects, and a lot of other graphic design skills that traditional artists do not necessarily have.
