If you're writing songs and have ever wondered Where could this chord progression go next? Why does this chord work? What notes could I use for this melody? How can I make this section sound different? Music theory can give you more options without taking away your creativity.
I have 25+ years of musical experience, a degree in Music Performance, and years of experience as a music educator. My goal is to explain theory in a practical, approachable way and show you how to use it in the music you're actually creating.
We can work on topics like:

Do I need to know music theory already?
No! Beginners are welcome. I can start with the fundamentals or meet you wherever you are in your understanding of theory.
Can we work on a song I'm currently writing?
Absolutely; I encourage it! We can use your song to explore chord progressions, melody, harmony, keys, structure, or whatever musical questions you're running into.
Will you tell me what chords or melody I should use?
I'll help you understand your options and explore what each choice could do for your song. My goal isn't to make the creative decisions for you, but to give you more tools to make those decisions yourself.
What if I don't read sheet music?
Totally fine. Reading notation isn't required. We can work with chord names, your instrument, recordings, or whatever way of communicating musical ideas works best for you.
What kinds of music theory questions can I bring?
Anything from “What key is my song in?” or “What chord could come next?” to questions about harmony, melody, borrowed chords, key changes, etc.
Is this a songwriting coaching session or a music theory lesson?
