Drakehaven, steeped in folklore about sea dragons guarding its shores, founded its hockey team in 1967 as part of a fictional North Coast Hockey League expansion. The teams name, Dragons, was chosen through a city-wide vote, inspired by tales of a mythical beast said to protect sailors from storms.
