I'm Yuka, a Japanese calligrapher. I began studying shodō at the age of five and trained for ten years under a teacher. I was awarded Special Student status (brush and pen) by the Japan Calligraphy Association.
Every piece is written with a brush on Japanese paper. Never a font, never traced, never AI.
WHAT YOU GET
As a native Japanese speaker, I don't just write your name I choose the characters. You receive it in two forms:
- Katakana: the correct Japanese spelling of your name by sound
- Kanji: characters chosen to match the meaning or feeling you want, with an explanation of what each one means
EXAMPLE
Lui ルイ 瑠衣
瑠 comes from 瑠璃 (lapis lazuli), a stone treasured in Japan for centuries. 衣 means garment. Together: one who wears the deep blue.

I started learning shodō — Japanese calligraphy — at the age of five, and trained for ten years under a teacher. Every piece I create is written by hand, with a real brush and sumi ink on Japanese paper. Never a font, never traced.

Is this really handwritten?
Yes. Every piece is written with a brush and sumi ink on Japanese paper, then scanned. Nothing is generated, traced, or made with a font. If you'd like to see the process, choose the Premium package and I'll include a video of me writing your piece.
Is my kanji name a "real" Japanese name?
The katakana version is the correct Japanese spelling of your name, exactly how it would be written in Japan. The kanji version is an artistic interpretation: characters chosen to match your name's sound and meaning. It is not a legal Japanese name, but it is meaningful, and I'll explain exactly wha
Can I use this for a tattoo?
Yes. I'll tell you clearly what every character means before you commit to it, because a tattoo is permanent. Please choose the Premium package if you need commercial rights.
What if I don't like the result?
You get two revisions with every package. Tell me what feels off and I'll write it again. Please note that each version is written by hand, so no two pieces are ever identical.
Can you write a phrase or a quote instead of a name?
Yes. Names and short words fit the packages above. For longer phrases, message me first and I'll send you a custom quote.
