Will my file actually print correctly, or do I need to fix it myself after?
I check wall thickness, overhangs, and orientation before delivery so it's ready to send straight to your printer you shouldn't need to fix anything yourself.
I don't have exact measurements, just a rough idea in my head. Can you still start?
Yes. Give me approximate sizes and what the part needs to do, and I'll nail down exact dimensions while modeling. You'll see a draft before anything's final.
Do I need the STL file, the STEP file, or both?
STL is for printing only no editable history. STEP/IGES is what a machine shop or manufacturer needs, and lets anyone edit the design later. If you're not sure which you'll need down the line, ask for both.
My part needs to print in pieces and bolt or snap together can you design it that way?
Yes, but tell me that before I start. It changes how I design the joints and tolerances, versus modeling one solid piece that has to be split apart afterward.
What if my idea isn't actually printable the way I imagine it?
Send me the concept first. If it's going to warp, need heavy supports, or fail on your printer, I'll flag it and suggest a fix before you've paid for something that won't work.
This part is going to CNC, not a 3D printer does that change anything?
Yes. Tell me CNC is the target and I'll design around machining limits instead of printing limits they're not the same constraints.
