I will do sheet metal design with flat pattern and fabrication drawings in solidworks

About this gig
Do you need a sheet metal part or enclosure designed correctly for fabrication with accurate flat patterns, correct bend allowances, and fabrication drawings your sheet metal shop can work from directly?
You're in the right place.
I specialize in sheet metal design in SolidWorks, producing fabrication-ready designs for enclosures, brackets, panels, frames, covers, and custom hardware with correct K-factor applied, flat patterns exported as DXF, and complete fabrication drawing sets that go straight to your laser cutter, brake press operator, or stamping vendor.
Whether you need a simple bracket or a complex multi-bend enclosure with fastener hardware, I will deliver a design that folds, bends, and assembles correctly in the real shop not just in CAD.

FAQ
What is K-factor and why does it matter for sheet metal design?
K-factor is a constant that represents where the neutral bending axis sits within the material thickness during a bend. It determines the correct flat pattern length the developed length of material needed before bending to achieve the correct final dimension after the bend.
What information do I need to provide for a sheet metal design project?
Material type and thickness (e.g. 14-gauge mild steel, 1.5mm aluminum 5052), the formed part dimensions or a sketch with key measurements, fabrication method (laser cut, plasma, waterjet, or stamping), and whether the part needs specific surface finish or coatings. If you have a reference part or ex
What DXF format do you export the flat pattern in?
AutoCAD DXF R12 or R14, the universal flat pattern format accepted by virtually all laser cutting, plasma cutting, and waterjet CAM software including Trumpf TruTops, Bystronic, LVD, and Amada. I can also export as DWG, SVG, or PDF if your fabrication vendor requires a specific format.
Can you design sheet metal enclosures with cutouts for switches, displays, and connectors?
Yes. Electronic enclosure design with precision cutouts for panel-mount switches, displays, USB and power connectors, DIN rail mounting, and ventilation slots is one of the most common sheet metal requests I handle. Provide the cutout dimensions and panel hardware specifications before ordering.
What materials do you design sheet metal parts for?
Cold-rolled steel (CRS), hot-rolled steel (HRS), stainless steel (304, 316), aluminum (5052, 6061), galvanized steel, copper, and brass. Each material has a different K-factor and minimum bend radius, I apply the correct values for your specified material.
Can you specify PEM inserts, rivets, and other hardware on the drawing?
Yes. Captive fasteners (PEM nuts, studs, and standoffs), blind rivets, spot weld locations, and tapped holes are all specified on the fabrication drawing with correct callouts in Standard and Premium packages. Provide your hardware requirements fastener size, type, and manufacturer if specific
How do you handle complex enclosures with multiple bends and formed features?
Complex multi-bend enclosures are modeled as sheet metal parts in SolidWorks using the Sheet Metal environment each bend is a parametric feature with correct bend radius and relief cuts. The flat pattern is automatically generated from the 3D model and verified before export.
Will the fabrication drawings include a bend table?
Yes. Every fabrication drawing includes a bend table listing each bend by number bend angle, bend radius, bend direction (up or down), and inside radius. This is the information your brake press operator needs to set up the machine correctly for each bend sequence.
Can you design for stamping or progressive die processes as well as brake press?
Yes. Stamp-formed parts have different design rules than brake press parts minimum feature size, web widths, and burr direction all differ. If your part is intended for stamping, specify this before ordering and I apply the correct design rules for the process.
