About this gig
I am Maarten Ouweneel, guitarist from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. As a session guitarist I have toured and recorded with many Dutch artists. Since the summer of 2021 I am the guitarist in the band of Dutch artist Danny Vera.
In my home studio I record both acoustic and electric guitar parts for projects by other musicians, songwriters and producers. I play different styles: pop, rock, blues, jazz, soul, country, EDM. Check out the sound examples below.

I record in Logic. I have a Universal Audio Apollo Twin with a lot of great plugins (NEVE, API, Distressor, etc).
For the most part, I record with real amps. I have of lot of great amps: Suhr Bella, Suhr Badger 35 vintage Fender Deluxe Reverb Morgan PR12, Marshall 50watt plexi and a Hook Wizard.
My guitar collection is diverse: Strats, Tele, 335, SG, Les Paul, Gretsch, Danelectro Baritone. All the tools to get it right!
Acoustic guitars: Atkin om37, Atkin J43, Taylor 310, vintage 1943 Martin 00-17.
I record these with a Neumann km184 or a nice condenser. Sometimes I also record a clean DI sound.

I'm a session guitarist from Rotterdam, the Netherlands. I have worked with a lot of different artists and dit a lot of recording in great studio's and also my home studio.
For the last few years I've been touring with te dutch pop group Og3ne (songfestival 2017, and winner of the voice of Holland season five)

What's your typical work process?
I first listen to the song. I try to imagine in my head what the song needs. Then I figure out the chords/structure. If there are some essential basic parts, I start with that, and then I try to come up with the real hooks, textures and vibes.
How do you deliver the sounds?
I try to make my sounds big and fat, they all have to get their place in the mix next to al the other instruments and vocals. That’s why I try to make the sounds different from each other by using different guitars, amps, pedals and other effects. It is possible to send the delay and verb separate
How is your studio setup
I record in Logic. I have a Universal Audio Apollo Twin with a lot of great plugins (NEVE, API, Distressor, etc). For the most part, I record with real amps and sometimes I use the Kemper. As for my acoustic guitar sound, I record with a Neumann km184 and sometimes, as an extra, DI.

I have a lot of different guitars: Strat, Tele, SG, Les Paul, Gretsch, 335, special P90. Acoustic guitars: Taylor D, Atkin OM, vintage 1943 Martin 00-17 Amps: Suhr Bella, Suhr Badger, Hook Wizard, Morgan PR12, Vintage Fender Deluxe reverb (blackface) and a Marshall 50w plexi. Lot's of pedals:)
