As a literary agent, I always inquire about beta reads before signing a client. They provide invaluable feedback, however they do not guarantee positive feedback. Writing is deeply personal and not everyone is ready for constructive feedback. If you are ready, congratulations! You have reached a milestone in the book writing process.
When I read your manuscript, I look at:
- the readability and pace of your manuscript.
- your plot, characters, setting, and timeline.
- tension, arcs, main and sub-storylines.
- voice, character actions and more.
And, if your manuscript is nonfiction, I also look at:
- credibility of topic, research, language, ability for a reader to understand the topic, voice, flow, interest and much more.
