FAQ
What types of audio recordings can you examine?
I can examine recordings from phones, CCTV systems, surveillance devices, bodycams, dashcams, interviews, voice recorders, security systems, and other digital recording sources. The original file is preferred whenever available.
Can you detect if an audio recording has been edited or spliced?
Yes. I can examine the recording for technical indicators associated with possible editing, splicing, discontinuities, inconsistencies, and other anomalies. Findings depend on the quality and condition of the available recording.
Can you determine if an audio recording is authentic?
I can perform a forensic examination for observable indicators that may support or raise concerns about the recording's integrity. However, I do not make unsupported claims of authenticity when the available evidence is insufficient.
What information do you need from me to begin the examination?
Please provide the original audio file whenever possible, along with any relevant background information about the recording, such as its source, format, recording circumstances, and what specific issue you suspect.
Do you examine metadata and file information?
Yes. Where the available file preserves relevant information, I can examine metadata, file structure, encoding characteristics, and other technical properties that may help with the forensic assessment.
Can you detect manipulation after a file has been converted or compressed?
I can examine converted or compressed files, but processing, re-encoding, compression, and format changes can remove or alter forensic indicators. The original file is therefore strongly preferred.
Will you provide a forensic report with your findings?
Yes. A technical report can be provided depending on the package or scope of the examination. The report can document the methods used, observable findings, relevant anomalies, and technical conclusions supported by the available evidence.
Can you examine recordings for suspicious background sounds or inconsistencies?
Yes. I can examine background sound patterns, noise characteristics, recording continuity, frequency information, and other observable audio characteristics that may help identify inconsistencies or suspicious artifacts.
Can you guarantee that you will find evidence of tampering?
No. Forensic audio examination cannot guarantee that manipulation will be detected. Some recordings may not contain enough information or quality for a reliable determination, so I provide objective findings based on the available evidence.
Is my recording and information kept confidential?
Yes. I treat client recordings and related information as confidential and use them only as necessary to perform the requested forensic audio examination.
