What's the difference between a "3D render" and a "manufacturing CAD model"?
A 3D render is just a pretty picture for marketing. A manufacturing CAD model is a parametric, editable engineering file with exact dimensions, assemblies, and separate parts that factories use to actually make the product. I provide both if needed, but my focus is manufacturing-ready CAD.
What file formats will I receive?
You will receive STEP files (universal manufacturing format), STL files (for 3D printing), and the native source files (SolidWorks SLDPRT or Fusion 360 F3D) so you can edit the design later. I can also provide IGES, DXF, or PDF manufacturing drawings upon request.
Can you design for injection molding?
Yes! If your product will be injection molded, please mention that when ordering. I will design with proper draft angles, wall thickness, ribs, bosses, and parting line considerations. For detailed mold design analysis, please check my specialized injection molding gig.
Do you provide manufacturing drawings?
Yes. Standard and Premium packages include 2D manufacturing drawings with dimensions, tolerances, and assembly notes. These are what your manufacturer or machinist will use to produce the parts.
What if I only have sketches or reference photos?
No problem! Most of my clients start with rough sketches, competitor product photos, or just an idea description. Send me what you have and I'll ask clarifying questions to create the exact CAD model you need.
Can you sign an NDA?
Absolutely. I work with many clients on patent-pending and confidential products. Your designs are completely confidential, and I'm happy to sign an NDA before starting work.
