About this gig
I'm Matt Laurence, a Nashville-based music professional, here to guide you on your guitar journey. My goal is to guide & show you all the best shortcuts to being a better player. Ive learned directly from some greats, including the award-winning Nashville-based musical protégées, Regi, Roy and Victor Wooten.
Together, we'll explore some important concepts such as being a natural" at your instrument, playing with feel/feeling, simplicity & much more.
Taking lessons with us will help you with:
1) Avoid constantly going in/out of progress and get a continued progression by getting real-time feedback on the guitar. Skip the endless Youtube-ing and unlearn your bad habits by letting us help!
2) Learn to be more self-expressive with your playing by having a good foundation of theory/technique that translates to all genres. Self-expression is what grabs your audience and brings them into your playing.
3) Gain motivation and encouragement in your guitar journey by hearing fresh and inspiring perspectives. Having someone to keep you accountable is essential!

I'm a professional guitar player and teacher located in Nashville, TN and would love to teach you guitar! We can cover rock, soul/R&B, blues, country, funk and some jazz.
Since playing professionally, music has taken me all over the US to play venues like the Grand Ole Opry, Austin City Limits and The Hard Rock Casino. I performed for many companies like Spotify and Ford and played in Costa Rica in early 2020. After 12 years of experience playing a variety of styles like pop, R&B/soul, rock, country and blues, I really want to pass on what I’ve learned.

FAQ
What do you use to teach the online lessons?
I do the lessons on Zoom and will send you a link to the virtual room before our lesson. I can accommodate either Skype or Facetime but Zoom is strongly encouraged for a streamlined teaching experience.
What skill levels do you teach?
I teach beginners to advanced. Doesn't matter if you've been playing for years or have never played before.
Can I be flexible with my lesson times?
Yes, most students like to take weekly lessons but some people like to "save" 1 or 2 lessons to be used later on. But please note: the student has 6 months to complete all of the lessons in the package before it will be considered "completed".
What do you teach in the lessons?
I teach a variety of subjects relating to guitar: chords, strumming patterns and rhythms, reading charts, technique, music theory, different voicings, major scales and minor scales, gear talk and tone, phrasing, soloing and playing musically, whatever you want to work on!
How should we start?
Just put in an order and we'll organize a time to do the lesson!
Should I have anything prepared for our first lesson?
You don't need to have anything prepared for a lesson. If you have songs that you've played before, it can help me gauge where you are but it's not essential for us to start!
What's the cancellation policy?
I understand that sometimes things come up. 12 hour notice must be given to the instructor before the scheduled lesson time; otherwise, the student will be charged for the missed lesson. If you have to change your lesson time for one week, please let me know ASAP.
Do you teach acoustic or electric guitar?
Both!
